Bible Study for Beginners: A Simple Way to Start Reading Scripture
Starting a Bible study does not have to be complicated. You do not need to understand every passage at once or read for an hour every day. Begin with a small section, read carefully, and give yourself time to reflect.
1. Choose a short passage
A Gospel such as Mark or John can be a helpful place to begin learning about the life and teachings of Jesus. Read a short paragraph rather than trying to cover many chapters at once.
2. Ask three simple questions
- What does the passage say? Notice the people, actions, repeated words, and main idea.
- What might it teach? Consider what it reveals about God, people, faith, or love. Read the surrounding verses so you do not pull a sentence out of context.
- How can I respond? Choose one practical thought to remember, one action to consider, or one question to explore further.
3. Keep a short study journal
Write the date, the passage, one thing you noticed, and a question you still have. The point is to pay attention and keep learning.
4. Build a routine that fits real life
Try ten quiet minutes a few times a week. Read, pause, and reflect. If you miss a day, simply begin again without turning the routine into a burden.

Bible study is a continuing journey. Compare passages, consult trustworthy study resources, and ask questions when something is unclear. Approach Scripture with curiosity, humility, and care.
